Bernard is an accomplished professor emeritus of chemistry at Newcastle University, specialising in synthetic organic chemistry; with over 50-year experience, he was the co-inventor of Rucaparib (Rubraca), recently approved by the FDA for treatment of BRCA-mutant ovarian cancer. He has over 500 publications in synthetic organic chemistry and supervised over 100 PhD students.
